Reef Biology
Taxon / Organism
A coral species identified by genus and species pair.
A coral species entry identified by a genus + species pair (e.g. Acropora hyacinthus). The genus and species are stored separately to support querying at genus level.
Role in restoration: Species selection is driven by the reference site — nurseries aim to propagate the same species mix found on the healthiest local reefs. Each fragment carries its taxon information throughout the lifecycle.
Diversity tracking: Species counts feed the taxonomic variant of the Shannon Diversity Index.
