Outplant Cell
A defined zone within an outplant site where coral colonies are placed and monitored.
A subdivision of an outplant site — a defined zone where coral colonies are placed and monitored. In the methodology, cells are referred to as bommies when they are discrete coral structures, or as 1×1 m grid cells on solid reef substrate.
Monitoring protocol: Bommie/cell monitoring is done in pairs — two Gardeners independently estimate and record their assessment of each cell. The methodology prescribes monitoring before outplant, immediately after outplant (T0), and annually before and after each outplant season.
Planting rule: No more than 3 corals of the same genotype of one species on each bommie/cell.
